  1. this is a personal message to you, not related to the blog entry.

Subḥān Allāh, a post-modern Western Muslim!

Thank you for your excellent videos.

I see you as a role model to show that being a Muslim doesn't mean you can't be creative, playful, geeky, etc.

I'm what I guess you could call a pre-Muslim or at least a Muslim sympathizer. I like your "revert" terminology. If ever I make the lifelong vow of Shahādah, it would be in a similar vein to become living proof that the expansion of Western secular values like human rights (which claim to apply to all of humanity) are fully compatible with traditional Islam (which also claims to apply to all of humanity). As such, I see the gap between the growing civilizations as more of a linguocultural one that can be solved by integration and merging of traditions and knowledge, rather than needing to see "clash" of civilizations.

The Prophet Muḥammad ☮ was a brilliant messenger.

I also admire brilliant minds like Carl Sagan, Tyson Degrasse and even less gentle voices like Dawkins. I feel that I understand the concerns of atheists, but their barrier to mutually beneficial dialogue with the Muslim world is simply the fact that they aren't practicing Muslims.

You seem quite engaged with your local Americans and their interactions.

I also respect that in your video about dialogue with the Queer community, you admitted that you don't know or don't understand the Queer perspective. I would love to engage in dialogue with you about the possible intersect of Queer and Muslim cultures. So far, my best understanding of sexuality from a Muslim perspective is that it's the domain of the personal sphere, not the public sphere.

The emerging culture and values of Queers is one that transcends literal physical acts. It's really about issues of respect of identity.

    Peace,
